TDRS offers many educational opportunities.

Tahoe Trestle Tour - This tour covers the Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company narrow gauge railroad, that wound its way from Glenbrook (on Lake Tahoe) to Spooner Summit nearly 1000 feet above. Lumber was then transferred to a flume for a harrowing 12 mile ride down to Carson City. The tour retraces the trip from beginning to end.

Truckee Trestle Tour - The Truckee Trestle Tour takes a group of people interested in Truckee area railroads on a tour of the surrounding hills to uncover artifacts of past railroads. The finds include old mill sites, railroad maintenance areas, rolling stock, old railroad grades, and yes, even trestles. Sites visited will include the Truckee Lumber Co., Crown Willamette Paper Co., Hobart Estates [Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber Co.], Boca & Loyalton Ry. [later Clover Valley Lumber Co.], and Verdi Lumber Co, among others. A dry climate has helped preserve these artifacts from the late 19th and early 20th century. Come along on a trip to these old lines!

Education Outreach - Upon request, Truckee Donner Railroad Society will do mini-classes for grade school children. Read a narrative of one.

Operation Lifesaver - Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit, international continuing public education program first established in 1972 to end collisions, deaths and injuries at places where roadways cross train tracks, and on railroad rights-of-way.
